history
On a chilly autumn night, the Smith's moved from the UK to Ashwick Grove, Connecticut. Only a few months beforehand had Mrs. Smith given birth to her beautiful baby boy, Andrew Jr. The birth had come painfully and slowly - despite the flow of her magic within her. (Which she secretly had hoped would ease the torture.) Poor Mr. Smith had no way of helping her, but to sooth her pain by gently kissing her eyelids, her nose and her lips as he let her hold his hand tightly.
They bought the first house they laid eyes on and never regretted the decision. It brought them four houses down from the family who became their closest confidants - the Manning's - well, at least for the parents.
The move to Ashwick Grove had not been an easy one on Mrs. Smith. She had a hard time shifting into this new place. However, her little baby gave her courage - plus, the Smith's had a very loving relationship. Yes, sure they had their fits (most caused by Mrs. Smith because she has always liked to give her husband the hardest time) but they raised their little boy in a very healthy environment.

Date: 2013-08-01 10:32 pm (UTC)She also hated how he reminded her that he had seen her plenty of times naked, and some had been within the last year. Needless to say, family vacations were the worst.
Harper and Andrew had constantly messed around, their relationship never set in stone. Some years she cried when other little girls told her Andrew liked her because he had cooties and she was fresh faced and pig tailed and convinced they were actually siblings. Other years they were weird teenagers with raging hormones, and Harper had sworn she would lose her virginity to Andrew, but that didn't happen either. And in recent years there were blurred nights with too much alcohol and too many weird feelings, and that one time they don't talk about. But as of recently he was kind of her best friend. Kind of, not really, but they managed all the same.
"Oh please, you were scrawnier than me until we turned fourteen, but even then I still think I have bigger muscles than you," Harper said with an eye roll as she sat back up. Hazel eyes observed him closely, narrowing at him as she made her move.
She threw a leg over and straddled him, pinching his cheeks rather aggressively because as much as he messed with her, she loved messing with him.
"I am sure I am still stronger and better and prettier than you, so you can think whatever you want, Smith."

Date: 2013-08-01 11:38 pm (UTC)Harper is unkempt hair and slightly disheveled as she lies on the couch, about to scream at him because she really hates when he does that. She isn't little Harper anymore and people with "sibling" relationships don't sometimes make out (it was that one time), so she's unbelievably frustrated because Harper doesn't like to be taken care of.
She wants to be independent and free because she is, and Andrew constantly proving to her that he doesn't plan on going anywhere is nice in thought but overwhelming in practice.
"You are the worst human being," She says seriously, turning over on her side to look at him.
Harper is about to say more but she hears the front door slide open. In one quick motion she sits up and straightens herself out, looking over at the front to see her parents and the Smiths and their loving, smiling faces that look at Andrew and Harper expectantly the moment they see them together. One time her mother joked that they had Harper specifically for the purpose to be with Andrew. Now looking at it, she doesn't think they were joking.
"Harper! Andrew!" Her mother, Jessica, coos because she's as happy as they come. She walks over and kisses Harper on the cheek but goes to Andrew and hugs him tightly. She probably hasn't seen him in about two weeks, but she raves all the time on how handsome he is. This isn't an exception. "Getting better looking with every passing day," She grins.

Date: 2013-08-02 02:03 am (UTC)It is true. Even after all the serious relationships the two had encountered - Andrew's with Brianna's and Harper's only serious relationship with Jace, it seemed that their parents only believed those were phases.
She looks at Andrew when he talks to her, feeling the eyes of their family on her expectantly. She only nods her head slowly and almost awkwardly, because she so desperately wants her parents to believe sometimes that they're not friends. "Well, shall we eat?" Her father exclaims as he turns and everyone follows him to the table.
The only two seats left are of course those next to each other, and Harper reluctantly sits down beside Andrew, her head down. For the most part the dinner is smooth. A lot of laughing and old jokes that Harper just loses herself
in, but she knows the awkwardness is coming soon.

Date: 2013-08-02 02:43 am (UTC)After a long Saturday of working at the diner, Brianna knew she needed a night out on the town. Of course, a night at the bar started with a few drinks and suddenly she was in a random car and heading towards a party in the woods. A few hits of something and a few pills of something, Brianna found herself leaning against a tree and watching the party unfold in front of her. Some random asshole kept trying to grab her but she was having none of it, deciding that all she wanted was to go home. She was over everything. Pulling out her iPhone, she found Andrew's number and dialed it. "Andy?" She asked, using the nickname she had used when they were younger and were dating. "Can you come pick me up? I'm in the woods." She had no idea how late it was or if she was interrupting him from anything.

Date: 2013-08-02 02:44 am (UTC)She doesn't know what it is. She doesn't know if she's so desperately hanging onto her freedom and youth that the idea of being with anyone permanently, especially Andrew, just because she has to. The notion of settling down and having children and all of that is something Harper can hardly fathom, much less with the male sitting next to her.
So she laughs, loudly, and she's never been happier for Mr. Smith because he is dragging his wife away along with her parents. The four of them are once again planning their children's future, but at least they're gone from the table and Harper can breathe.
She, like Christina Smith, downs a second glass of wine. Now the room is starting to spin.
Harper looks at Andrew and lets out an annoyed groan, even if he didn't say anything. Sometimes even looking at him caused her to be angry. She is buzzed and even more careless, her finger digging into his chest.
"Why you," She asks the gods of the world as she stands up and starts to gather some of the plates, wobbling as she walked. She convinces herself that he's not even that great looking, even if it isn't true.

Date: 2013-08-02 03:16 am (UTC)Harper wasn't always so shut off to the idea of him. But she's different and free and hates to linger on the idea that Andrew always felt the need to take care of her. It makes her stomach lurch forward because he still makes her feel like some little girl that she isn't.
She hates that he thinks he has to watch over her and she hates that her parents - their parents, think that she needs him, that she's almost not good enough on her own.
So When he tells her to sit down she feels her blood boil underneath her skin. Harper turns and looks at him, completely serious. "Andrew, I am not seven anymore," Harper says matter of factly, reveling in her frustration.
It is mainly the alcohol talking, because she has no real reason to be mad. It is just her anxiety coming out.
Andrew really deserved an award for being the only one to make her angry about 80% of the time.

Date: 2013-08-02 01:22 pm (UTC)Her skirt is too short, her shirt is too tight and revealing. The dark make up she always wore now was slightly smudged. A few years ago, Brianna would be caught dead in this outfit. It was funny how things have changed. "Thanks for coming to get me." She said, walking over to him, falling slightly in her too tall heels before catching herself again. "The party is a few hundred yards down there." Brianna pointed, "I just had to get away."
Glancing up at Andrew, he looks exactly the same. She's grateful for that. No matter how much trouble she gets into and how big of a mess she is, Andrew is always the same. Always looking out for her. "I really don't want to go home," She murmured, looking up at him.

Date: 2013-08-02 11:42 pm (UTC)"Stop trying to take care of me," Harper complains. She is trying to come off as an older woman, sophisticated and put together, but her whining and incessant stomping of her foot every time her comes to close proves anything but. Yet she successfully manages to get the rest of the dishes and put them into the sink without breaking anything.
Jessica Manning saunters back into the kitchen for a short moment, and she sees the on going struggle between Harper and Andrew. It only makes her smile.
"Do you two remember the Ericksons? Jasmine and Joseph? We visited them about four years ago when we went to London. Well, Joseph pursued Jasmine for about ten years before she finally caved," Jessica shares.
Harper wants to kill her mother. She also wants to kill the Ericksons, because they provided a fall sense of hope to their parental unit. But as soon as her mother enters, at the same moment she is also gone.
Harper just turns to look at Andrew, long and hard as if she is trying to see past him. It isn't working. "I think we should
just elope and then come back and tell them we did it and didn't invite them to the wedding so they all go crazy." Brilliant.
